A hybridisation-dependent membrane-insertable amphiphilic DNA.

We synthesised a novel membrane-insertable amphiphilic DNA. The amphiphilic DNA had a nine-nucleotide hydrophobic region at one end consisting of octyl phosphotriester linkages. The amphiphilic DNA bound to the lipid membrane by inserting the hydrophobic region; this process was facilitated by the presence of the complementary DNA strand.

A highly flexible inorganic framework with amphiphilic amine assemblies as templates.

A zinc phosphite-phosphate framework, (HA)2[Zn3(HPO3)4-x(HPO4)x] (1; A = cha, coa, iba, pa, and ha; x = 0.3-1) with nanometer-scale channels was prepared. The framework exhibited an extraordinarily high flexibility, 13% expansion at ambient pressure and 27% contraction under a high pressure of over 2.3 GPa without undergoing any phase transformation. The volume changes in the compression-decomp...

Novel Nanotube Buckypaper as Electrode Material for Fuel Cell Applications

We present novel supported electro-catalytic systems based on metallic/bimetallic (Pt, Au-Pt) nanoparticles decorated carbon nanotubes Buckypaper (BP), and Bilirubin Oxidase (BOD) decorated Buckypaper-based biocathodes in neutral medium for direct glucose fuel cell. The electrodes have been tested for their suitability in mixed-reactant biofuel cell applications in a phosphate buffer solution (...

Membrane analysis with amphiphilic carbon dots.

Newly-synthesized amphiphilic carbon dots were used for spectroscopic analysis and multicolour microscopic imaging of membranes and live cells. We show that Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) occurred from the amphiphilic carbon dots to different membrane-associated fluorescence acceptors. The amphiphilic carbon dots enabled imaging of membrane disruption by the beta-amyloid peptide.
